Succession Planning in the Leisure Industry

This evening seminar will look at the tax and practical aspects of Succession Planning, focusing on the issues of specific concern to Caravan Park owners. This will include an analysis of the current HM Revenue & Customs stance on the topical issue of Business Property Relief and consideration of the availability of a new “pre-clearance procedure” and its role in a tax planning strategy. For those considering lifetime succession planning within the family, there will be an explanation of the role that trusts often play in this process and how, with proper planning, inheritance tax and capital gains tax can be avoided or deferred. We will also explain how your Will forms an integral part of this process. Finally, we will look at the importance of professional valuations in succession planning and consider how valuations play a central role in any succession plan.

Welcome to the September/October edition of the Lawletter from Aaron & Partners

This edition features articles on changes to the Companies Act, the recent high profile challenge to a Will and how divorce can affect the family business. We also feature articles from our other publications covering employment, planning and transport, along with the latest news from Theatr Clwyd and Chester Zoo.

We have some upcoming events as part of Wrexham Business Week, the details of which (including how to book) can be seen in the left hand column.

In addition to the busy programme of Aaron & Partners seminars during November, I would like to draw your attention to an interesting round table discussion being held at Rowton Hall Hotel, near Chester, on 19 November. Organised jointly by the Cheshire and North Wales branches of the Institute of Directors (IoD), this breakfast event is a ‘Question Time’ style debate with a panel of experts on the lessons learned from the recession - see the invitation below for more details. Please note that bookings to attend should be made through the IoD North West office. Click here to view the IOD Event Invitation.

Are you up to speed with the Companies Act 2006?

The Companies Act 2006 (“the Act”) effectively replaces existing company legislation by re-writing, updating and modernising company law. The Act has been implemented in a number of phases, with the final 500 or so sections of the Act taking effect, and equivalent sections of the Companies Act 1985 being repealed, on 1 October 2009.

Feston - At Clwyd Theatr Cymru

From the very opening moments of Festen (The Celebration) there is a sense of momentous events. A father is celebrating his 60th birthday with a formal dinner. At his large country home Helge, a successful restaurateur, is surrounded by his wife Else, their close-knit family - Christian, Helene and Michael - friends and household staff.

But there is tension in the air and when Christian, the eldest son, rises to propose the first toast he makes a devastating accusation against his father.

As the party continues relationships are changed forever in a gripping psychological drama which exposes a family's darkest secrets.

Festen, based on the Danish Dogme film, is provocative and moving - electrifying theatre which raises the most profound questions about family and society and was dubbed "A landmark play" by The Guardian.

(This play contains strong material and sensitive subject matter which some people may find unsuitable for under 15s).
